While bound by Hindi as their national language, each state has its own language (not just a dialect), its own script, its own cuisine, its own unique identity. On a recent prAna adventure, our team of ambassadors explored two of these states: Kerala and Karnataka.
Any trip to India comes with its own set of rules. You have to forget everything you think you know, understand that an itinerary is out of the question, and give in to the energy of an experience that will resonate across all future adventures.

THE ARABIAN SEA
Coincidentally the name of the boat we were during our 16-hour trek across the Arabian Sea to the Lakshadweep Islands off the west coast of India. Getting on the boat was easy as we boarded from the Ft. Kochi ferry building; getting off the boat was another story.
The ride was an adventure, but the curry and chai tea more than made up for it.

LAKSHADWEEP ISLANDS, ARABIAN SEA, INDIA
Once on the all-Muslim island, we traded time between the steep, salty wave at the jetty, and the shallow lagoon that stretched for miles.
When a wrong turn on a surf check turns into a longer than expected tour of the island, you need a flexible fit with a rugged soul. Just ask prAna Ambassador Nole Cossart (photographed here on one of the rare moments he wasn’t leaping from the pier to dissect this salty, exotic wave).
Each evening on this remote island off the west coast of India, crowds would gather to watch prAna Ambassador @nolecossart get cozy with this incredible wave. Before dinner, Nole and the entire team would join the local kids in the shallows to bodysurf as the sun set behind them.
prAna Ambassador @nolecossart puts our gear to the ultimate test from sun up to sun down. Whether he’s chasing waves at the jetty, sailing through the lagoon, cracking coconuts at the resort, or hunting hermit crabs on Baby Island, he epitomizes endurance.

Before heading to Hampi for some epic bouldering, we stopped over in Bangalore to visit one of our Fair Trade Certified™ factories. There we met Rani, the Fair Trade Committee President, who will help her fellow factory workers decide how to spend the next round of Fair Trade premiums.
HAMPI, KARNATAKA, INDIA
Once the center of the Hindu Vijayanagara Empire in the 14th century, Hampi is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and internationally known as a bouldering mecca. We wandered for days through 600-year old ruins, rice paddies, and massive boulders, before connecting with a local climbing club.
