To say Chris Burkard is a travel expert is like saying the sky is blue, or the ocean is salty: a serious understatement. We tapped the prAna Ambassador and his team for their tried and true travel hacks, tips, and advice.

Packing Hacks

Use packing cubes/compression sacs to keep your gear and clothes separated and organized and save some much needed space.
Never ever pack your bag full to the brim. Coming home, we all get a little lazier packing, so it’s good to have some room for your gear to grow.
Bring a dry bag to put wet stuff in: boardshorts, wetsuits, workout gear. Nothing worse than having gross wet stuff to fly home with.
Always bring bag tags.
Always leave a little tracking device in every bag.

Airport Tips

Apps! There are some killer TSA apps with airport maps that can really speed up the transit process, especially if you are late.
Lounges: if you’re staring at a layover longer than 2-hours, the lounge is almost always worth it: Wifi and food alone is worth the 50 bucks. Add to that the ability to be fully charged for the flight. No brainer.
Bring a dry bag to put wet stuff in: boardshorts, wetsuits, workout gear. Nothing worse than having gross wet stuff to fly home with.
Slip on shoes for an easier TSA experience.
Portable phone charger is a must.
Drink a ton of water and bring lotion for your face. Airplanes dry you out.
Hand sanitizer. Duh.

In-flight Tips & Tricks

Find a way to sleep, no matter what. Full dose of sleep and you’ll feel like you’re flying first class every time.
Compression socks and essential oils. Always.
Eye mask, neck pillow, noise-cancelling headphones. Always.
