Fair Trade Certified™ FAQ

How are Fair Trade Certified farms and facilities monitored?

Fair Trade Certified™ creates a market that works for everyone involved, from farmers and factory workers, to factory owners, brands, and you. They inspire this holistic impact by adhering to four important pillars: rigorous standards, community develop funds, transparent supply chains, and conscious consumers. This means safe working conditions, no child or forced labor, elimination of harmful chemicals, maternity leave, and much more.

What is a community development fund?

The Community Development Fund is owned by the factory workers. They vote on how to spend the money based on their own unique needs. From healthcare and onsite pharmacies, to educational programs, to childcare, to in-home appliances like stoves, the workers come together, vote for the program, define the project, and work together to make it happen.

What has prAna done recently?

In 2017, prAna’s Fair Trade Certified™ program gave back $150,000+ to 14,000+ workers around the world. With your support, we can increase this year over year and continue to help improve the lives of the people who make our clothing possible.

What’s the difference between Fair Trade Certified™ and Fair Trade Certified™ Factory?

Fair Trade Certified™ refers to products that have full certification, meaning both the facility the product was made in and the material in the product has been certified by Fair Trade.
Fair Trade Certified™ Factory refers to products that were constructed in a facility certified by Fair Trade. There is no certification for the material in the product.

Ask for Fair Trade by Name

As you begin to outfit anything from your next vacation to the new school year, look for Fair Trade Certified™ product, ask for it by name, and spread the word. Give awareness to this program, and other sustainability efforts like it to help us reduce our impact on the planet and fundamentally change the way clothing is made.
