A former couch potato, Sage Rountree (PhD) came to running as stress relief during graduate school and to wear out her large chocolate Lab with runs in the forest. More than a dozen years later she’s run races from the 400m to the ultra marathon, triathlons of all distances, and she coaches others to do the same. Sage came to yoga to find balance from the demands of training and loved the way the disciplines complemented each other. From this experience, she’s written four books on yoga for athletes and on athletic recovery. She also writes on yoga for Runner’s World and on training for Yoga Journal. Sage’s classes, training plans, videos, books, and articles make yoga and endurance exercise accessible to everyone.

As an endurance sports coach and a yogi, her goal is to help people find work/rest balance for peak performance in sports and in their daily lives. She knows that a mindful approach to training and yoga will optimize how you use your body and breath to achieve a sense of balance, connection, and peace. Sage is on the faculty at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health and teaches online at Her students, who compete in sports from ice dancing to football, include casual athletes, Olympians, and many University of North Carolina athletes and coaches.
