It Is National Fair Trade Month!
October is Fair Trade Month
October is a very special month for prAna because we get to celebrate the incredible cotton farmers and factory workers who produce our Fair Trade Certified styles. We also get to focus on all of the other Fair Trade Certified products that are now available – from your morning cup of coffee to your afternoon chocolate fix. You can even find Fair Trade versions of coconut water, shoes and ice cream!
We hope you’ll join us in recognizing the hardworking people who produced these items and help us spread the word about the many ways that Fair Trade helps improve lives and strengthen communities all over the world.
- Fair Trade is ensuring safety for factory workers and a greater voice in the workplace,
- It’s helping moms in Rwanda buy their kids shoes so that they can attend school,
- It’s giving expectant mothers in Ecuador safe working conditions and maternity leave,
- It’s helping families in Peru invest in nutrition by learning to grow and cook quinoa,
- It’s helping small farmers connect with buyers to sell their beloved products more directly, without the middlemen.
What is Fair Trade?
Fair Trade is a powerful model to fight poverty in farming communities and improve working conditions in factories. The idea is that you purchase the Fair Trade product and the people who produced it receive a fair share for his or her hard work. This model allows farmers and workers to keep their kids in school, bring medical care and clean water to their communities, and improve the quality of their products. The choice is a small one, but collectively, we can have a large impact on families and communities around the world.
Spread the Word and Make a Difference
So much good is being done through Fair Trade, yet there are still so many families living in poverty. This is why, during Fair Trade Month, we encourage you to share a little something about Fair Trade with your social networks and encourage them to #BeFair and look for the Fair Trade Certified label every time they shop.
