Yoga Alliance Foundation Scholarships 2014

Yoga Alliance Foundation scholarships are intended to support yoga teachers, business owners and professionals in their continual learning and development. In 2013, we awarded two scholarships to RYT 200s to attend advanced training.

This year, we are pleased to announce six scholarships, available to applicants in any country:

Advanced Training Scholarship

Two awards will be given in the amount of $2,225 each to cover tuition costs at a RYS 300 for RYT 200s who desire to upgrade to RYT 500.

Award recipients must enroll in and complete a RYS 300 training program and upgrade to RYT 500 within the 2015 calendar year. Award monies will not be distributed until recipient has upgraded to RYT 500 and will be paid by Yoga Alliance Foundation directly to the RYS 300.

Aspiring Yoga Teacher Scholarship

Two awards worth $1,125 will given to those who want to become a yoga teacher by completing a RYS 200 program.

Award recipients must enroll in and complete a RYS 200 training program and register as a RYT 200 within the 2015 calendar year. Award monies will not be distributed until recipient registers as a RYT 200 and will be paid by Yoga Alliance directly to the RYS 200.

Conference Scholarship (for RYS Owners)

Two awards worth $439 each for RYS Owners (RYS 200, 300, 500, RCYS or RPYS) will cover the registration cost to attend our 2015 Business of Yoga Conference.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must have been the Owner of a RYS (RYS 200, RYS 300, RYS 500, RCYS or RPYS) for a minimum of three years
  • Must share why financial assistance is needed to attend the conference
  • Must provide classes to underserved populations
  • Must demonstrate leadership in the yoga community

Applications and required materials must be received by October 31 at 12 p.m., EST to be considered. Incomplete or late applications will not be reviewed.

Underserved Populations
Underserved populations are those who reside in, but not limited to the following:

  • High poverty level communities
  • Homeless shelters
  • Military bases
  • Jails
  • Recovery and treatment facilities

Or people in the following categories, but not limited to the following:

  • Low socioeconomic status
  • Elderly and seniors
  • Children/teens
  • Veterans
  • Those with disabilities


Financial Need
To demonstrate financial need, applicants’ family income for 2013 must be no more than 2.5 times the federal poverty level, as defined by the Department of Health and Human Services.

Review Process

Yoga Alliance administration will collect and review all complete, on-time applications. Considerations include:

  • Length of time as a RYT or RYS
  • Leadership contributions
  • Work with underserved populations
