PrAna Partners With Canopy to Protect Forest Resources
Lifestyle Brand Reveals Its Best Practices For Solutions In Reducing Wood Fiber Use
CARLSBAD, CA (Nov. 5, 2013) — PrAna announced it’s partnering with environmental not-for-profit group Canopy to help protect the world’s forests by reducing its use of textiles made with wood pulp, such as rayon and lyocell.
“Reducing our use of textiles like rayon, which are made from the harmful extraction of forest fibers, has been an internal goal of prAna’s for the past few years,” said Nicole Bassett, prAna’s Director of Sustainability. “We track the origins of our raw materials so that we can make better, more sustainable choices when it comes to our supply chain.”
PrAna’s partnership with Canopy will help drive positive change for forest products. Canopy is a solutions-driven not-for-profit based in Vancouver that is dedicated to protecting the world’s forests, species and climate. This fall, it is launching its CanopyStyle campaign to bring awareness to the wide-reaching issues surrounding forest fibers in fashion.
“Many consumers are not aware that there are textiles coming from endangered forests and this campaign aims to draw attention to this and highlight the efforts of companies like ours to know about the origins of forest fibers or reduce their use entirely,” said Bassett. “PrAna is proud to be involved with theCanopyStyle campaign because it’s putting the spotlight on something we believe in.”
PrAna is committed to conserving, protecting and restoring natural resources. As part of its company policy, it purchases forest products that are recycled, use less chlorine, or are Forest Stewardship Council certified.
