prAna & Chris Sharma Present Psicobloc 2013

Monday, July 29th, 2013

prana-presents-psicobloc-2013-1A couple of years ago we were fortunate enough to witness Chris Sharma win the first epic deep water solo/DWS/Psicobloc climbing competition in beautiful Bilbao, Spain. With an estimated 5,000 people in attendance, we couldn’t help but wish the format would make it to the U.S.A… And it is!
Building off of the success of the first elite Psicobloc competition held in in Bilbao, Spain, in 2011, the Psicobloc Masters Series is the next evolution in competitive climbing. The inaugural Psicobloc Masters will be held August 2, 2013, at the Utah Olympic Park’s 750,000-gallon freestyle aerial training pool. Some of the best climbers in the world will compete head-to-head on a custom wall approaching 5.14 in difficulty, featuring a 26-foot roof 50 feet above the water. The comp will feature a men’s and women’s division and winners will share a $20,000 purse, the largest of any climbing competition this year. With the help of sponsors including prAna, Momentum Climbing, Walltopia, and 18 other industry leading brands, organizers have put together a three day competition jam packed with climbing, music, and gear giveaways at this high intensity spectator event. Confirmed athletes include Chris Sharma, Jimmy Webb, Dave Graham, Daniel Woods, Carlo Traversi, Jon Cardwell, Kevin Jorgeson, Tommy Caldwell, Joe Kinder, Matty Hong, Vasya Vorotnikov, Nalle Hukkataival & Ian Dory. The women’s field is equally as impressive with confirmed athletes including Jacinda ‘JC’ Hunter, Sasha Digulian, Sierra Blair Coyle, Lynn Hill, Chelsea Rude, Nina Williams, Delaney Miller, Courtney Sanders, Angie Payne, Megan Martin, Alex Johnson & Emily Harrington!
It’s been a dream of mine for years to do a deep water solo competition here in the US. Its without a doubt the most visually spectacular and exciting form of climbing and I really believe this could mark a before and after for competitive climbing and taking it to the mainstream. I’m super psyched and proud to have my longtime sponsor prAna head up the Psicobloc Master Series as the title sponsor. Over the years we’ve done so many amazing things together and this event will just be a progression of prAna’s commitment to growing the sport and its athletes.
~ Chris Sharma, prAna Ambassador
