2013 Yoga For Hope
Not long ago, I received 2 tickets for Yoga For Hope, a charity event that raises funds to aid City of Hope doctors and researchers to continue the fight to conquer cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. Not really knowing what to expect, I put my yoga gear on and invited my boyfriend Vince to join. Throughout the event, the instructors including prAna Ambassador Michael Fukumura, each brought their own creative flair to the 90 minute yoga session.
In the midst of practicing yoga, I set my intention to be present and to admire someone who personally inspires me. With my intention top of mind, my body felt this extreme feeling of euphoria. The weather was perfect, not a cloud in the sky. The sun felt warm yet the breeze felt cool. As I closed my eyes, I could hear a mixture of peoples oceanic breaths and birds chirping as they soared through the sky. I opened my eyes to a sea of 700+ people practicing yoga. I looked over at Vince, the person I had set my intention towards, my true inspiration, and smiled. For he is someone who has experienced tremendous loss, he has truly blossomed into an compassionate human being who’s hope inspires me. In that moment, I realized we were meant to share this experience and be inspired together. Thank you to all the instructors for their words of enlightenment and beautiful practices. Yoga for Hope was an event that helped us gain insight into our life and our relationship. The day instilled a great joy in our lives and inspired us to live in the moment every day both on and off our mat!
