Fred Nicole & Jimmy Webb: Climbing Sandstone

Sunday, November 4th, 2012

Bouldering legend Fred Nicole and southwest strongman Jimmy Webb spent some time climbing together in Chattanooga this October. Fred was in town for prAna’s fall sales meeting and it was his first time pulling down on the unique sandstone boulders of the area.

Fred was crazy about the steepness of the rock, the unique features and the superb friction – it reminded him of bouldering in Fontainbleau near Paris, France. He loved the ‘Southern Hospitality’ of the people too, which in fact did not remind him of Fontainbleau.

It was quite a treat to watch these guys interact together. They come from completely different eras and different parts of the world, but what they do have in common is a soulful approach to climbing and life.

Both of these iconic climbers are as humble as it gets, generous beyond belief and treat everyone with respect – no matter the grade they climb. Yes Bohemian climbers can be model citizens of the world.
