Climbing & Yoga Retreat In Moab, Utah | May 2-6

April 6th, 2012

I didn’t know it was possible to fall in love with a place. Yes, I had seen cities, oceans, towns, rocks and mountain tops that made me smile and even drool a little, but Moab is different. I am in love with Moab the way you would love a person. My stomach flutters and I hold back smiles every time I type out the word. Yeah, it’s that bad. I don’t think I’ve ever had this big of a crush.

From the top of a boulder that I just climbed, I look out and up at how the bright blue sky lines the rock faces and creates a sharp red edge. Borders and outlines mesh together in some places, like when mountains get blueish and fuzzy with distance, but not here. In Moab, you can see exactly where rock ends and sky begins. They add beauty and drama to each other, but they do not mesh, they only snuggle up close at the places they touch.

I immediately know that this is the place I want to lead the climbing and yoga retreat I’ve been dreaming about for the past year. Of course Moab makes me want to climb, but it also makes me crave yoga like no other place I’ve been. I decide that people need to see this.

A few weeks, hours of research, and emails later, I’m on the phone with Steph Davis, and she is helping me with the details of the trip. Because she is a sweetheart/badass, she has agreed to lead an afternoon of climbing on the retreat, and this makes me giddy in the same way Moab does. As we hang up the phone it hits me that this trip is happening. I smile.

Join me and Steph Davis for the adventure of a lifetime. Spend your days climbing, practicing yoga, trail running, mountain biking, and rafting. Come back to camp to find a freshly cooked meal prepared by our local chef, and sleep under the full moon. For five days, we will live in the wild. Prepare to never want to leave. Can’t say I didn’t warn you.

Steph Davis: Moab Boogie

October 3rd, 2011

Moab held its annual skydiving festival (the Moab Boogie) last weekend, and brought in the big jump planes from Arizona. The big attraction for our boogie is the special offsite jumps that we have here, where skydivers get to jump out of planes over the most beautiful landscapes imaginable and land in interesting places….you don’t get that in Kansas :)

Mario and I flew our wingsuits above Castle Valley. We hopped out above Parriott Mesa, and then got to fly above the ridgeline from Sister Superior, the Priest, the Rectory and Castleton Tower. It was hard to figure out what to look at first, there was too much to take in. So we’ll have to do that one again. Soon.

THE SCENE

From the director of PURE and CORE, get ready to infiltrate four of the biggest scenes in the world of climbing.

Moab, Utah: a mellow desert town surrounded by massive sandstone towers, where climbers test the limits of danger while still maintaining a strict traditional ethic. Boulder, Colorado: the undisputed social hub of US climbing, with sponsored athletes of every discipline living in a city packed-full of talent, competition, and progressive ideas. Innsbruck, Austria: with possibly the highest concentration of talent in the world, the competition climbers here fight not only for the tops of podiums, but also corporate sponsorships and mainstream success. Catalunya, Spain: with near-limitless potential, Northern Spain has claimed the title of sport climbing capital of the world, and is now home to climbing’s largest population of elite sport climbers.

Filmed in stunning 4K Ultra High Definition, get ready for a fast-paced ride through the centers of the climbing universe.

Moab Swinglines

January 20th, 2011

When highliners decide to get creative with a little extra rigging, time and ropes: The “Swingline” is thus created. While on their tour, the somewhereelseland team established and walked some new highlines in Moab, Utah.  They adapted the rigs from Dean Potter’s BASEline and a new line, ‘god loves americans’ to accommodate huge rope swings. Brian Mosbaugh was there to film and make some jumps.

Freefall

May 29th, 2009

Enticed by our superstar athlete, Steph Davis, and her recent slide show at prAna, one of our office folk made a pit-stop in Moab on a recent road trip through the Southwest to experience the rush of freefall firsthand.  Here’s a few images from the experience…
