Daniel Woods and prAna’s Alex Johnson won the Mammut Bouldering Championship in Salt Lake City. Woods dominated the men’s final, flashing three of the four problems and topping out on the remaining problem on his second attempt. Only one other climber, prAna’s Paul Robinson, flashed any of the final problems; Julian Bautista topped out on all four problems in a total of 10 attempts, good enough to grab second place.
prAna’s Alex Johnson battled with Alex Puccio for the women’s crown, with each woman flashing the first three problems. Johnson reached two holds higher than Puccio on the final problem to snag the win. Anna Stohr, the Austrian woman who is ranked second in the world in bouldering, was third.
The Mammut Bouldering Championships, held atop a hotel parking garage in downtown Salt Lake City in conjunction with the Outdoor Retailer summer trade show, drew several thousand spectators during the course of the evening final.

It’s always exciting to see our athletes compete, and very exciting to see them stand on the podium!
At the ABS 10 Nationals in Boulder, CO this week, congratulations to Alex Johnson for taking 1st place in the women’s division! Alex joined our team at the age of 14, and we love seeing her send. Paul took 2nd in men’s, which we’re darn proud of since he only got out of his boot a month ago, protecting his broken ankle.

The Golden Piton Award was established in 2002 as an annual award given by the editors of Climbing Magazine. It recognizes remarkable achievement across multiple disciplines of climbing. Unlike other awards by peer review, the Golden Piton is awarded based on the experience of the editorial team at Climbing Magazine. The editorial staff picks the winners and runners-up from a pool of names collected from Climbing Magazine’s Hot Flashes, and from soliciting the opinions of top contributing writers and news writers. PrAna athletes scored three of the coveted awards.

Alex Johnson World Cup Win
Vail, CO —At the Vail Bouldering World Cup in Colorado, held at the Teva Mountain Games, prAna athlete Alex Johnson stunned everyone by winning the women’s competition. prAna athlete Paul Robinson made the podium in the men’s bouldering competition finishing third.
Although Johnson, 19, was second at the U.S. bouldering championship in February, she had never competed in a Bouldering World Cup. However, she had done well in international speed climbing comps. She was third in her age group in speed at the World Youth Championships in Austria in 2006, and second at the World Youth Championships in 2005; she also finished fifth in speed against adult competitors at the International World Games in Germany in 2005.
Congratulations to Alex, Paul and the rest of the competitors.
