We talked to Fred Nicole …
Fred Nicole has been a long time ambassador for prAna, and more importantly – a long time friend. We asked him a few questions about how he spends his time, about his heroes, and about climbing. From Fred:
A week in your life- what does that include?
One week in my life normally includes 3 to 4 days in the nature to practice one of my favorite’s activities, right now mostly bouldering. If possible I try to include one day to clean our apartment. I spend as much time as I can with Mary. When I’m in Switzerland I spend 1 to 3 days at Gecko Supply GmbH resoling climbing shoes. I spend some time with friends, I nourish our neighbors’ cat that is squatting our apartment, I read at least one book a week plus some comic strips and some newspapers, go to the movie, go to a restaurant, culture things like visiting expositions, eating pasta once a week with Mary’s family, etc.
Favorite route?
It’s always the one I’m working on. Otherwise I could not invest so much energy to do it. The last one I did I named “L’isola che non c’é” and it will be my favorite one until my next project
Favorite food?
Taste is something you can develop and extend. I try to learn to appreciate all kind of food.
Favorite music?
I listen to all kind of music. I can try to give some ex.: Jethro Tull, Alela Diane, Moriarty, Gogol Bordello, White Stripes, Edoardo Bennato, Berruriers noirs, etc.
Favorite Movie?
Lately I really liked “Persepolis”, maybe “Babel” and the last one I saw “Monster versus Alien” in 3D.
Crimper or sloper?
For a long time crimper, now sloper.
Plans for the future?
To have a plan. Just kidding. I don’t know. I have many dreams and projects. I would like to realize them but I was never clear in my expectations, sorry.
Who are your heros?
Maybe some people able to fight till the end for there ideal, like Gandhi. Aung San Suu Kyi, Mandela, etc.
What are your favorite prana clothes?
I like almost everything. Right now I wear mostly the jeans with one of the comfortable T-Shirt like the Prevail T. To climb I wear often the Sutra Pant and the Embroidered Tank.
What do you do on rest days?
Rest. I try to discover new things in life. Otherwise see “one week in my life”.
Ever been injured while climbing?
Yes, and it made me realize that it is a real commitment to climb.
Do you train?
I guess that we can call a constant practice over the years a kind of training.
Where do you find the motivation to climb hard?
Climbing hard is always relative to your shape, unfortunately. My motivation is pushed by the will of improve, and I’m never satisfied with myself, so I keep trying.
