Ancient Art With Steph Davis
Steph and the guys headed out for some memorable climbs in Utah. Ancient Art is the most classic and moderate free climb in Fisher Towers. Here is what Steph had to say…
We had a great time on Ancient Art….you have to climb it to believe such a funny-shaped piece of rock can actually exist. Beav, Jeff and Kevin loved it!! I hadn’t been up there in several years, and was happy to see that the ancient (truly) pins and bolts from the original aid ascent have all been replaced by the ASCA. That is a great contribution to this route, because the super soft sandstone is a little questionable. Though every pitch is fun, great climbing, the summit pitch is pretty memorable….you have to walk the plank, and either crouch and creep under the diving board or else do a pretty exciting hop-mantle on top of it, which is also very unglamorous, so of course that’s what Beav and I opted for. After that, you climb to the summit, and climb past the anchors onto a semi-attached, tilted plate of mudstone. Probably the best part of the climb was JL’s spontaneous and pretty lengthy strike-a-pose dance on the summit block. I have seen a lot of people on that summit, and all of them have been happy, but I can say for sure that JL took it to a whole new level of celebration!
Although I didn’t get to throw any of them out of an airplane, it was an awesome visit
xxSteph
