Need to recycle those pesky #5 plastic yogurt cups when you are away from home? There’s an app for that. Launched in the spring of 2009 by recycling information clearinghouse, Earth911.com, the iRecycle app for the iPhone helps you find the nearest locations to drop-off water bottles, used motor oil, your old cellphone, or virtually anything that can be recycled, anywhere in the United States. The latest version, launched just last week, now also hosts information on local green events in your area and access to news and other recycling happenings at Earth911.com.

The iRecycle app for the iPhone will give you directions to the nearest recycling center from your current location, tell you which materials the site will accept and supply you with other important like their phone number and hours of operation so you don’t get there to find out they’re closed every other Tuesday. Best of all, this handy little tool is free… as it should be.
