I Want To Remain Free
When someone invests a significant amount of time and resources to build something and give prAna a position of honor, we feel it only appropriate to share. We asked Matt Simpkins what his creation meant to him and how prAna was connected…
Why PrAna?
I was inspired to build a self designed and self made climbing wall in my garden at home. Not just to inspire me to take up climbing again – but to inspire others to do the same. So I started with what inspired me. My faith and the freedom and energy of the great outdoors.
Since I first started climbing I have only worn PrAna Mojo shorts for pure comfort and freedom of expression on the rock face. I’m on my 5th pair in 9 years! So it was simple, I wanted to put something on my wall which would symbolize that freedom and to make me appreciate nature and its creation even in my own back yard. PrAna continues to believe in the freedom of the great outdoors, of the beauty and awe of nature, and they endorse organic produce, sustainability, the environment and the freedom of expression in whatever you choose.
I know I won’t be the next Dean Potter – but he still inspires me. To slack line the way he does and to push new limits like free base soloing the Eiger.
We as humans have in the last fifty years become more urbanized, more domesticated, more entrenched in sedentary lives, at a time where technology and the creativity of the human heart let us realise our ultimate boyhood dreams – of wing-suit flying, free soloing, base jumping and slack lining from great heights.
So it was simple really. I want to remain free… From all of us at prAna, we thank you Matt.
